WEDNESDAYS #9 vs. HOCKY TEEM:

(vol. 43W, no. 9; newsletter by r.n.)
editor's note: #99 recounts our Semifinals exploits where the No.3-seeded Pirates faced-off against the No.2-seeded Hocky Teem. During the regular season the Hocky Teem handed us a 7-3 loss. And now, here's the Cap'n ...
Pirates defeat Hocky Boys advance to Semis.

The youthful Hocky Boys flashed their speed game then folded under the relentless pressure of Pirate maturity. Rather than sticking to their quick paced efforts the Hocky ones reverted to the chippyness that was their signature in their early days at GoodSports. Given it was the Playoffs, the Men In Black would have none of their crap.

The Hockies had a number of early leads, but the Pirates would literally fight back and knot the score. It seemed each Pirate goal was the result of gritty play except for Ed's end-to-end rush and blast.

Scott LeMatty was at his agitating-best by screening the keeper on Russ' two regulation tallies and Ed added his second off a face-off win that was deflected and floated over the keeper's head and under the crossbar. Harris made a number of key saves late to carry us to OT.

In OT, a hard two-man forecheck by Scott and Russ caused a turnover and a point-blank chance that deflected up in the air and was batted in by Russ. On to another battle with the Slickers!
