SUNDAYS #3 vs. JAGUARS:

(vol. 42S, no. 3; newsletter by h.s.)
After dropping the first two games of the season the Pirates were in need of win. Fortunately,
even with our rash or injuries, we had a ten-man crew. Our Captain even blew off his ice hockey game to make sure we'd have the best possible team on the ice.

The Jaguars are one of the few teams we've been successful against, but the “new” Jag crew refused to go down easy. After the 1st period, we only managed a 1-0 lead on a tally by Farkas from an outstanding cross-ice pass from new addition Joe Nigro (replacing the injured Gucci this season).

Whereas the 1st period was close-faught affair, the shortened 7-skater bench of the Jags began to take it's toll in the final frame. LeMatty would put in back-to-back goals and before the Jags could reorganize, Wildman added another to give us a healthy 4-goal lead. As the period went on the Pirates were looking like a well-oiled machine, as we were owning the offensive zone and our defense — including Scooby who found his legs after his second “retirement” — where rushing at will. The night concluded when Eddie, who was subbing for Rud, had a nice end-to-end rush capped by his trademark slapshot to finish-up the night's scoring.

The 5-0 win that featured four different scorers was a much-needed positive note to a season that features only four other teams (and three of the A-caliber quality). After the July 4th bye week, we resume vs. the second-place Bulldogs (the only team we haven't met yet) in an attempt for .500.
