SUNDAYS #9 vs. PUCK HOGS:

(vol. 30S, no. 9; newsletter by brooks)
The smell of Playoffs are in the air again. Another chance for the Pirates to win yet another Crown. We all wait anxiously for this part of the season to begin ... and the real fun to start.

Well, wait no longer. It started with a bang as the No.1-seeded Pirates featured a strong roster for our Semifinals match against the No.2-ranked Puck Hogs: Tony-Brooks-DiPierro and Farkas-Russ-Tim formed the offensive lines; on the other side of the blueline we had the trio of Gucci, Mike and LeMatty.

During our two regular-season meetings against the Puck Hogs we outscored them 13-6 and collected two wins. Tonight would be more of the same. It wouldn't take the Pirates long to flex some muscle as we scored early and often — including six unanswered 1st period tallies. The explosive lead was a team effort as six different players found the twine: Dan (assist Brooks), LeMatty (assist Tony), Farkas (assist Brooks), Russ (unassisted), Tony (assist Mike), Mike (assist Tony).

It seemed that the Pirates were not only en route to the Finals, but also to a “Mercy” ... and perhaps even a shutout. That was until Yours Truly tried to force a horrible pass to LeMatty that resulted in a breakaway for the Hogs and their first goal of the night. Although the opposition held on tenaciously to try and avoid the “Mercy” (including a late tally on a turnover in front of our crease), the Pirates would eventually add four more goals in the final frame: Tony (unassisted), Brooks (assist Mike), Brooks (assist Dan), and LeMatty (assist Gucci) — the last goal for the “Mercy” by Scott coming with just :90 seconds remaining in the game. A good win with a solid effort by a multitude of players. Now it becomes “money time,” as the Championship awaits and a chance for the Pirates to win their first-ever back-to-back-to-back Titles.

INTERNATIONAL “TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY”
SEPTEMBER 19: MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

In the strange-but-true category, September 19 every year is “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.” There's not too much more we can add about that, but it seems appropriate that our colorful language should be recognized worldwide.

JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR GUCCI IN A.C.
If you've been living in a cave you might not have heard that Gucci had a nice payday in Atlantic City — he won a drawing for $50,000! He was offered cash, check or a new Mercedes (seriously), but opted for the check which we photographed above. Rumor has it that Gucci will be paying for the Fall seasons for both Pirate teams.
