WEDNESDAYS #5 vs. RED STARS:

(vol. 29W, no. 5; newsletter by brooks)
Sporting a line-up with only seven players, we looked to avenge our defeat from last week with a game against the Red Stars. They are one of those teams that many considered to borderline “A” division. No doubt they were looking to feast on a short-staffed Pirates team ... but it was not to be.

In the ranks we had some “regulars”: Brooks, Craig, Wildman, Mike (aka “The Rocket”), Gucci (aka “The Fridge”) and the always-diving, but rarely-writing #67. Missing from action were The Miller Bros. (on vacation in Me-hico), Dave (on a “business” trip) and an AWOL Chris. The always-subbing Joe Baio was not to be found as he was also on a business trip for his new gig with Dow Jones. Fortunately the Pirates were able to welcome back their recent No.1-draft pick to the ranks, Anthony Toscano, who was fresh off the D.L. Our staple in net for the last four games, Doug Collimore — who has been taking Harris' place — was away for the Easter break, so Chris McIntyre took his place in-between the pipes. All-in-all it was just another night in the fluctuating roster of the Coastal Pirates.

We opened the scoring in the 1st period on a goal by Brooks (assist The Fridge) to make it 1-0. We would give up the next two straight before tying it on a tally by Craig (assist The Fridge). The 2-2 score is how period ended.

The final 22:00-minutes was all Pirates, however. We got goals by Tony (assist Brooks and The Rocket), Brooks (assist The Rocket), and Craig (assist The Rocket) to round out the scoring. We played great defense and frustrated the Red Stars in the last frame, where they didn't get many shots or chances at all.

SCREW YOU
Due to popular demand, we present the X-Ray of Russ' wrist. The Captain had nine screws (and a plate) added to his wrist after blocking a shot in the opening game of the season. Fortunately the doctors rebuilt him and made him “better than before — stronger, faster.” Russ is scheduled to make his comeback shortly. Stay tuned ...
