SUNDAYS #9 vs. RAGE:

(vol. 4S, no. 9; newsletter by h.s.)
We stalemated twice against the Rage earlier this season, but last night's game was for a Final's berth so the pace was fast and furious. The Rage scored first on a redirected shot and, although we controlled the puck, John Arena was doing a good job of stoning us. Finally with just :30 remaining in the 1st, Jimmy got a puck off the boards and put it in to make it a 1-1 game at the first break.

At the 10:00-minute mark of the 2nd, the Rage drew a faceoff in our zone back to their point, and — after another great redirection — got back a 2-1 lead. We stayed on our game though, and Nick assisted on Jimmy Ferraro's second goal of the evening (after all, Jimmy DID promise two goals before the game!) to tie things up once again. At this point, the Rage was a bit rattled and we continued to press, resulting in Nick (on a feed from Wildman) capitalizing on a breakaway for our first lead of the night. Then, Jimmy assisted on Ralz's goal and that finished-up the 2nd period scoring — giving us a 4-2 lead (what a momentum swing).

We continued to keep the Rage on their heels in the 3rd, as great "D" by Scooby, Dan, Russ and Roger (who was even seen laying on top of a Rage player at one point) kept the Rage from gaining any quality shooting lanes. Kudos also to Dan DiPierro who worked both sides of the blueline, allowing our defensivemen to press. Although Nick made a great move and backhanded one high, he was stopped on a great save and the only other score came unassisted to Wildman — a goal which stunned the Rage and assured us of our second Sunday finals appearance in two seasons.

WON 5-2

3) JOHN CASSENS
For working the boards and being a general nuisance to the Rage.
