SUNDAYS #9 vs. TEAM MICRO:

(vol. 2S, no. 9; newsletter by h.s.)
Although it was a consolation game, both teams were pretty charged up. We had eight in the lineup and the Micro had ex-Pirate Rob Armswood in disguise for them. Rob would end up scoring their first goal, but Scott LeMatty redirected a Russ shot to even things up. “Redirecting” was the operative word as later in the first a Micro slapshot bounced off a Pirate's shoulder and caught the upper edge of the goal for Micro's second score. Later, a broken play in our end left a Micro forward all alone at point blank range and that goal gave them a commanding 3-1 lead after the 1st period.

We came out gunning in the 2nd, and great passing by Farkas, Wildman and great hustle by Gary Bleiberg resulted in two Pirate tallies (both by Russ) to tie things up. With less than a minute remaining in the 2nd, however, a “miscue” at our end on a clearing attempt ended-up on the blade of a Micro and enabled them toregain the lead, 4-3, with seconds remaining.

Strong defensive play (by Roger and Dave) froze the Micro offense in the 3rd and Russ was able to find an opening off his own rebound to get us the tie and get him the hat-trick.
